Magnificat High School Surround Learning Center Design

In 2013, we completed our work with Magnificat High School Cleveland, bringing their learning center design vision to life! We joined Feilding Nair International to collaborate with Magnificat High School on this learning center design project.

About the Surround Learning Center

The term “Surround Learning Center” was created by Sister Helen Jean Novy. It’s a concept that connects the physical environment, new learning methodologies, and information and communication technologies for creating a holistic and enriched learning experience.

"It's about matching the environments all through the school with the new ways of teaching and the news ways of learning," Sister Carol Anne Smith, president of Magnificat

Learning Center Design

The Surround Learning Center in Magnificat High School Cleveland was developed in 3 phases. Our team worked together on the learning center design; this involved the 1970s construction of the school’s original spaces. We re-designed these areas to create a seamless environment between learning and the physical space.

To begin the process, a series of immersive Discovery Workshops were held which engaged students, faculty, parents, and community members to collectively explore concepts and ideas for the learning center design project. These were followed by design workshops and finally, implementation. Phase I was completed in August 2012, Phase II was completed in August 2013.

This is just one of the many examples of modern, 21st century classroom design. View other innovative education projects with studioTECHNE.
