About Westlake Porter Library
Porter Public Library is an important part of the Westlake community and beyond. They service patrons throughout Westlake, western Cuyahoga County and eastern Lorain County. They provide a variety of services for the community for adults, teens, and children. Their mission is “to provide an inclusive environment that fosters learning, community growth, and connection in an ever-changing world”.
studioTECHNE’s Library Building Assessment
Buildings need a continual program of maintenance and upkeep, and the 18 year old Westlake Porter Public Library is no different. The facility staff has done an excellent job of continuing to keep the facility in the best condition possible and prior to starting a strategic planning exercise, the Library Board approached studioTECHNE to review the facilities and prepare a report identifying the condition of interior and exterior elements and developing a budget and plan for replacement and repair and a 10 year master maintenance plan.
We worked with Porter Public Library’s facility staff for the better part of a year assessing the condition of their existing physical plant, and identified $3.8 million dollars worth of needed updates. For the library director, this assessment was a crucial first step in a strategic planning process that will also identify missing areas of service and prepare the library to meet the needs of the community for the next 20 years.
