Notre Dame South Dorm

The Project

Notre Dame College was transitioning from an all-girls college to a co-ed institution. In order to meet this goal, dramatic changes need to be made to the campus dormitory facilities.  Our architecture firm was hired to conduct a building assessment, review the college's strategic plan, and make recommendations necessary to expand the quantity of room to encompass the amount of new students the college would have. Finally, we were tasked to implement a residential master plan.

Our Plan

Essential to the new plan was a $3 million 15,000 square foot dormitory and connector. The new building featured 150 new rooms that could accommodate 300 students as well as lounges and private/group study areas. The new dorm met the social and educational goals of the college. We were able to make these changes and stick to the college’s strict timeline in order to finish the building creation and renovation by the summer opening. We wanted to make this building look complementary to its existing counterparts, so we kept the Gothic style. Additionally, the sustainability goals of the college were met and today, the building is operating above the current energy codes by 20%.
